"Evolution of Gardening" at the Yard, Garden & Patio Show by By Suzanne Hankins, Oregon Association of Nurseries Director of Events and Education

On behalf of the Oregon Association of Nurseries, I'd like to invite you to the 2008 Yard, Garden & Patio Show, presented by ProGrass. The 2008 event features the "Evolution of Gardening."

This year's show will be an exciting experience that resonates with today's broad range of gardeners. From a small balcony...to a city or suburban yard...to a wide open country space, this is the place to find the plants, the experts and the inspiration!

The Yard, Garden & Patio Show is Portland's only garden and outdoor living show produced by local growers and gardening experts. It showcases innovative yard and garden ideas and products to the Pacific Northwest, and is designed to have something for everyone, no matter your level of 'green thumb'.

A few highlights from the 2008 Yard, Garden & Patio Show include:

• Pet Friendly Landscapes ProGrass is teaming up with the Oregon Humane Society to show pet lovers how it’s possible to have a beautiful, safe landscape for pets and people to enjoy.
• Display Gardens Ten lavish display gardens designed by top local landscape pros. Look for great examples of water features, stonework, small space designs, outdoor furniture, and an abundance of plants.
• Family-focused "Kid Digs" Activities to entertain and inspire young gardeners.
• 65 hours of free seminars Demonstrations and talks by well-known gardening personalities.
• 65 hours of free seminars Plants, plants and more plants to purchase, including the rare and unusual. Utilize free Parcel Pickup for your purchases.
• Wine Pavilion Adults can sample a variety of great Oregon wines.

• Pull or spray weeds now to get a head start on any weeds coming up in the landscape beds.
• Remove dead leaves from the center of shrubs. This helps prevent pest problems.
• Schedule a mower tune up. Before the Spring rush, have your mower tuned and sharpened.
